We have the rare and vintage 122 ml tubes of Winsor and Newton’s Foundation White which has been out of production at Winsor & Newton for at least 40 years. Foundation White is a flake white with a small amount of zinc added for texture. Tubes are in great condition, most in their original boxes and have been stored in a cool dry place for the entire 40 years.
The Winsor & Newton Foundation White can be used for priming canvases or boards that have first been isolated with rabbit skin glue. It also can be freely used in layered painting because its vehicle is raw linseed oil. This causes the paint to dry more quickly, thoroughly and with a hard film that resists abrasion and attack by solvents. It can yellow however, which is why some artists finish their work with standard white pigments ground in slow drying pale oils like safflower oil or poppy oil.
